- Volkshilfe shops
Second-hand items in good condition are sold at low prices in the Volkshilfe shops. This includes clothing, furniture, toys and games, books, sports equipment, electrical devices, crockery and much more.
- Collecting and processing of textiles
300 containers are situated throughout Upper Austria. Anyone can throw their used clothes into these containers. The containers are emptied regularly. The clothes are sorted. Clothing in good condition is cleaned and sold in the 16 Volkshilfe shops. Unwearable and dirty items of clothing are turned into cleaning cloths and sold to industry.
- Recycling of electrical equipment
Used electrical equipment can be handed in to the Volkshilfe or at a waste collection centre. This electrical equipment is tested. Equipment that works properly is cleaned and sold in the 16 Volkshilfe shops. Broken equipment is dismantled. Valuable parts such as copper cables are sold to industry. Anything, which cannot be recycled, can be disposed of.
- Metal processing
At our plant in Schärding we produce metal parts. We put individual parts together to create a finished product. We cut steel and iron to the sizes wanted. We do this work on behalf of companies.
- Furniture collection service
People often buy new furniture. But what to do with the old furniture, which is often in good condition? The Volkshilfe furniture collection service dismantles the furniture and takes it away. This costs nothing. Furniture, which is in good condition, is sold in the 16 Volkshilfe shops.
- Family coffee house and Pension Weberspitz
Guests can stay overnight in the Weberspitz. They can drink coffee, eat cake or have another little snack. The prices are low. There is also a play area. The Weberspitz is very popular among families with children.
- Gasthaus Wurstkuchl
The Gasthaus Wurstkuchl has existed for a very long time. A different cheap midday menu is offered every day. Tasty dishes from Upper Austria are on the menu. The head chef uses fresh and healthy ingredients. Companies and individuals can also use the Wurstkuchl for celebrations.
Why do these special Volkshilfe establishments exist?
For some people it is hard to find work. These people can work in special Volkshilfe establishments.
These special establishments are called “social-economic companies”.
- “Social” because they are not about making a profit.
