dUNDu – Sponsorship for young refugees
What is dUNDu?
The name dUNDu is a German abbreviation of “you and you”.
Through dUNDu, adults can sponsor unaccompanied minor refugees.
What are unaccompanied minor refugees?
These are adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18 who have fled to Austria as refugees without parents or any other relatives. They have fled their homes because of war or other catastrophes. Unaccompanied minor refugees are cared for in youth homes by the charity Volkshilfe.
The sponsors at dUNDu are volunteers who spend some free time with the adolescents 1 or 2 times per week.
At dUNDu it’s not about money donations, but rather about spending time together with the youths. Playing football, cooking, or studying together, for instance.
Through dUNDu the sponsors can get to know young people from other countries and cultures.
The important thing is for sponsors to want to form a relationship with the adolescents. This often leads to a long-term friendship.
